As soon as you know you need to transport your vehicle, you should begin your search for the right auto transport company so that enough time can be allotted for everything that needs to be done. You will need time to make sure your car is ready for the trip, and you will need to allow transport time, as well.

The company you choose may not be able to pick up your vehicle on the exact day you want, so try to be as flexible as you can be with your auto transport time frame. This is part of the reason why planning as far in advance as possible is so important.

If you have special shipping needs, or are shipping your vehicle internationally, more time may be needed to make all the necessary arrangements. Some companies want at least 4 weeks notice before shipping a vehicle. If less time than that is allotted, it may prevent certain companies from being able to accommodate you, or may incur extra charges due to being a "rush" order.

Be sure to ask the car transport companies you are considering how long it will take to ship your vehicle and how much notice they need. Find out if they can ship and deliver on the dates you would have as your first choice. If they run into problems, what do they do about pickup or delivery delays? If there are delays, how will that affect your ability to have your vehicle at the pick up location, and your ability to get your vehicle at the drop off point? Ask about their means of tracking your vehicle en route, as well. Find out if the auto transport company will guarantee pick up and delivery dates.

The scheduling may result in you being without a vehicle for a day or longer. Be sure you have another reliable means of transportation to cover those days.
