When you see a nice car for the first time, four questions come to mind: 
   What would it be like to own that car?

   Would the cars performance be to my liking?

   How nice the car looks parked?

   How much does the car cost?

When it finally comes time to buy a new car, prospective buyers by having asked these questions to themselves about the hundreds of different cars they have scene on the road usually find only a few that merit serious consideration. The new Cadillac STS was kind of a surprise entry into my “car buy of the year award”.

Performance takes into account both the raw numbers (0-60, 60-0, and ¼ mile), but also includes the more important “how it feels to drive”. The question becomes; does this car have the feel of the road that I am looking for?

Of all the factors, the most common deal breaker is appearance. This is because the pride of ownership is so closely tied to how the vehicle looks. Self image can be enhanced by driving any vehicle that gives the driver a sense of well being, happiness or the over all feeling of being successful.
 
  The cost of a vehicle is important in two ways. Some vehicle you just can’t afford, a Ferrari Enzo (only 400 produced) is listed on EBay for $930k, but might change hands for a few dollars more. Even if you could get a second mortgage to buy that Maserati coupe for 87k, your wife would have you sleeping on the sofa for the next six months. Beyond just the actual number of dollars paid for a vehicle, the deal you receive has a lot to do with your long term satisfaction.
